About the song
Atomic Love
I came up with a simple guitar riff, a relentless driving rhythm, and a backing vocal harmony for this track—a bit of a throwback to the days when rock songs weren't afraid to leave plenty of room for extended guitar solos.
So I did exactly that, leaving the outro wide open for the guitar players to take over. What emerged is an epic guitar duel between Phil Keaggy and Rex Paul Schnelle, trading riffs and pushing each other as the song races toward the finish.
Gary Lunn's "Fleal" bass lines mesh perfectly with Dan Needham's pulsating drum beat. Dan was the second musician in the remote recording process, laying down the song's rhythmic foundation with little more than Dave Cleveland's repeating guitar riff to play against. Dan has an uncanny ability to understand a song's intent with very little information and give it exactly what it needs.
On this song, I decided to just get out of the way and let great players play.
